When Paint Is the Right Call
Paint is a great fit if you want the room usable quickly, your ceiling is already low, or you want to keep easy access to shutoffs, plumbing and wiring.
When It Isn't
If you want a smooth, traditional ceiling that matches the rest of your house, drywall is the way to get it. If there's an active leak or mold on the ceiling, fix that first. Paint won't solve it, and we'll tell you so.
